We've always called this part of the street Mary Street (running from the church east, past where the school used to be, as far as the corner where it becomes York St), with East Mary (or Short Mary) running only between York St and Bridge. I remember the Mary Street School very well - in 1958, I attended Queen Elizabeth Public School in Picton, but once a week, all the Grade 7 boys from QEPS would walk to Mary Street School for our 'Manual Training' classes where we tried to make bird houses without cutting off our fingers.
